Academy Camp FAQs

Though we do require an audition for the summer musical, each student will receive a role in the show announced within the first few days of camp. We believe a key part of a professional theatre experience is the ability to practice an audition.  Our team will enroll your child in the summer musical camp after auditions and contact you with the next steps.

Yes, though they do vary by semester. You can check out our most frequent venue partners on our Community Partners page.

Performance sharings most closely resemble a recital. You sit in the audience and watch your student perform the piece they have been working on during the week(s). Process sharing is the conclusion for camps for 4-7 year olds. It is part performance part show-and-tell. Our staff will begin by sharing with you what types of skills your student has been working on and demonstrate key points that can be continued at home.

As a general policy, we are not able to allow same day enrollment. As we continue to expand our programming, we require more time to prepare before each semester. To reflect this, our enrollment is scheduled to close TWO DAYS before a class is scheduled to begin. The exception to this are our Tuesday classes which are scheduled to close the SATURDAY before a class begins.

We understand that sickness, appointments and emergencies happen. But attendance matters because it allows your young artist to fully experience the class and teaches them accountability and their value to the team! Many of our classes involve group/team work, so others will depend on them to attend for overall success. Please notify Trike with any expected days you might miss, so that we can plan accordingly. Students should try not to miss more than one day.

Our smallest artists should be at least four years old at the time class begins. What really matters is, are they currently in Pre-K4? If not, are they familiar with a classroom environment and can they use the bathroom without assistance?

Yes! Please allow your young artist to be fully immersed in the experience without distraction, by dropping them off and picking them up each day of camp. Our team works hard to make sure our young artists are in a safe, fun, and comfortable environment each day. However, if you’d like to stay and observe, we’re happy to accommodate. Please let our teaching artists know ahead of time.

At this time, we are not offering adult acting classes.

See our Scholarship application form. We award 20%, 50%, and 80% scholarships each semester based on need.

Enrollment for summer camps should be for the grade your young artist will be in for the upcoming Fall. For homeschoolers, please use the age range listed next to each camp for extra guidance.

Lunches are not provided by Trike Theatre. For Full-Day camps, your young artist should bring a NUT-FREE lunch, two NUT-FREE snacks, and a REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE. For Half-Day camps, your young artist should bring one NUT-FREE SNACK and a REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE.

Trike Theatre reserves the right to change these policies when it deems necessary to maintain the safety of our children, staff, and community.
In the Spring of 2022 our HVAC system was upgraded to include an ionization process proven to help kill the Covid-19 virus. Our policies were developed in accordance with the latest Arkansas Department of Health information and CDC Standards.

Beginning with Trike Academy Summer 2022, masks and vaccinations for COVID-19 are recommended but not required.

Limited capacity: Our classes and camps will remain at limited capacity to allow for social distancing each day.

Sanitization stations will be available in each room.

All Trike Academy teaching artists and apprentices are fully vaccinated.

First of all, YAY and WELCOME!

Second, we send out first-day letters with policies, important dates, and more on the Thursday before an Academy class begins. If your class is on Thursday, you will receive your letter one week before that day.

  • Mandatory Reporting
  • First Aid/CPR

Based on need, Gwen Edwards Memorial Scholarships award up to 80% in tuition waivers. But space in these acting classes for kids is limited and so are the funds. So, the earlier you apply the better.

ABOUT THE APYO

The Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) team believes in making classical music fun and educational for local young people. We do that by teaching those who are keen to learn and by making it accessible for others who may be even just a little curious. The APYO is a full Arkansas youth orchestra with music instruction and performances for its players. APYO students develop strong musical foundations and discipline. ‘Play’ is a big idea. Our players learn to express themselves through music. They grow into confident individuals, developing deep friendships in the process.

Classes vary based on students’ level and areas of interest as they rehearse for the concerts in November and March.

Students will be sorted into either the Philharmonic or Symphonic Orchestra

Philharmonic Orchestra

The Philharmonic Orchestra is an intermediate-level full symphonic orchestra designed to provide students with an introduction to large orchestral playing and is conducted by APYO Conductor Robin Sumpter.  Members of the Philharmonic Orchestra receive group and individual coaching which enables them to build solid fundamental technical and musical skills.  The Philharmonic Orchestra performs two concerts annually in conjunction with the Symphonic Orchestra ensemble.

Symphonic Orchestra

The Symphonic Orchestra is the most advanced of our ensembles.  The Symphonic Orchestra challenges students through sophisticated symphonic repertoire and is offered for musicians whose auditions showed a high level of musicality and advanced technical skills.  The Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by the APYO Music Education Lead, Er-Gene Kahng, and performs two to four concerts per season, including one Side-by-Side concert with the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra.  Students receive regular professional coaching throughout the season, including sectionals for strings, winds, brass, and percussion.

We now offer an asynchronous online program for All-Region prep and compulsory involvement in the APYO program for ensemble experience. Haas scholars will need to complete online assignments and participate in APYO for the two 8-week terms as well as the concerts to participate in All-Region.

ARLENE M. WARNER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Arlene Warner has been an evangelist for the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra for many years, encouraging anyone who will listen to attend APO concerts, often buying tickets to share. Her generous and enthusiastic spirit is an invaluable gift to the arts community in Northwest Arkansas.   The Arlene M. Warner Music Scholarship Fund creates opportunities for students to explore music and support the development of musical skills.
